If you are planning to study abroad, the TOEFL test is the most accepted standardised test, with its scores accepted by more than 7,000 colleges, universities and licensing agencies in more than 130 countries as per ETS, a non-profit organization which runs this test.

The TOEFL iBT measures how well you read, listen, speak and write in English and use these skills together in the university classroom. This internet based version is very academic and successful in preparing students to study to give insight of academic scenerio as found in the North American colleges and universities. With the inclusion of integrated skills and new speaking section, TOEFL now is reported to access more language skills than they were supposed to be in PBT and CBT Versions.

So, it could be best for prospective abroad-study goers to take this test if they want to study in those places. However, they will be eligible for admission to virtually any institution in the world — including the top colleges and universities in the U.S., Canada, U.K., Australia and New Zealand, according to the ETS Official website www.ets.org/toefl
